Vertical Wall Panels

Vertical Wall Panels are storey-height panels of aircrete used to form the inner leaf of external walls, separating walls and internal partitions as appropriate.

Vertical Wall Panels are craned into place onto standard foundations and installed using H+H VWP mortar – a fast-setting and very strong mortar that forms a 2mm airtight joint. The entire ground floor of a house can be installed in a single day: an effective Modern Method of Construction based on a masonry material.

The overriding advantage of Vertical Wall Panels is the speed of build – and this is best demonstrated where the panels are used as part of a complete housebuilding package, ideally with prefabricated timber floors and roofing systems.

A complete system for offsite construction based on masonry

In 2016, H+H worked in collaboration with Roofspace (now part of St Gobain) to develop the I-House System. This package is based on Vertical Wall Panels and includes timber I-Joist floor cassettes and a roof either of standard truss construction or the ‘Roofspace I-Roof’ panelised roof system. The I-House System also includes all lintels and insulation – fixed to the exterior of the Vertical Wall Panels panels and in between separating walls.

All the constituent parts of the house are prefabricated offsite, delivered to site and assembled by a dedicated team. It’s a complete package.

Using the I-House System, the entire weatherproof structure of a standard two-storey (or two storey with room in the roof) house design can be completed from foundation to roof within one week on site. The use of this building method provides the speed of offsite with the reassuring familiarity and proven performance of masonry build.

Award-winning Modern Method of Construction

This method of building is an ideal Modern Method of Construction which is now recognised by the NHBC and is part of the NHBC Accepts scheme.  The I-House System has also been certified by the Build Offsite Property Assurance Scheme providing assurance of its 60-year lifespan.

In 2017 this innovative building solution was recognised in the Housebuilder Awards, winning the Best Building Fabric product award and going on to win the overall Product of the Year category in the main Housebuilder Awards. In the same year the solution was also shortlisted in the Offsite Awards, and the British Construction Industry Awards.

In 2021, now an established building solution with 2,000+ completed houses, this masonry offsite system again won the Best Building Fabric award in the Housebuilder Product Awards.
