Department description:    

As part of the Yard Operations team at H+H no two days will be the same, from the varying volume of loads through the site to a variety of additional tasks to perform there will be no time for boredom.


Working as part of a small team on a rotating weekly shift basis, this is a key role that ensures the business continues to supply our customers with the correct product, on time, every time. Interaction with our haulage partners and colleagues on site is vital, as is a having calm demeanour under pressure.

Key responsibilities:    

  • Conduct all activities in line with the company's health and safety protocols, and in compliance with relevant health and safety and environmental laws.
  • Perform the role of a Yard Operative as assigned by the Line Manager, which includes the loading and unloading of vehicles, using a forklift truck.
  • Ensuring the correct procedure for picking, loading and delivery orders, for efficient and accurate order fulfilment.
  • Maintaining the stock management in the yard, by ensuring product is sorted, and stored in the appropriate area.
  • Support the Yard team with regular inventory counts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as instructed.
  • Ensure compliance of all third-party drivers with site regulations.
  • To maintain yard housekeeping to the highest possible industry standards, ensuring that the yard is clean, safe and efficient.
  • Immediately report any shortcomings in methods, procedures, quality, or efficiency to the Line Manager.
  • To perform Risk Assessments before commencing any non-routine tasks that have not been previously evaluated. 
  • To ensure that all yard plant equipment (Forklifts / Trucks) have their daily checks performed and all failures are reported and actioned in accordance with H+H procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:    

  • Possesses a solid secondary education
  • Time served or apprenticeship in warehousing and storage, distribution and logistics or trade supplies
  • Proficient knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Possessing yard and logistics experience 
  • Valid Forklift licence (e.g. B1 or B2) and driving licence.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is desirable.
