The primary purpose of this job is to manage the installation, maintenance, servicing, and repair of all systems, buildings, facilities, and machinery necessary for the continuity of manufacturing operations and the safety of site personnel. Main responsibilities include compliance with safety protocols, developing maintenance strategies, managing preventive and routine maintenance, managing and leading a maintenance team, and fostering effective communication across departments. The role also involves budget management, technical support, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and maintain a safe, orderly site environment.

By joining the Engineering Department at H+H you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and efficiency of our aircrete block manufacturing facility. As custodians of the production infrastructure, our engineers maintain and optimize the machinery, processes, and systems that produce high-quality aircrete blocks.

Key responsibilities:
Health and safety
- Managing maintenance operations and systems, ensuring that everyone on-site, including employees, visitors, and contractors, follows the company's policies, health and safety protocols, environmental standards, and energy management systems.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, orderly, and well-organised site environment.
- Engaging with the company's permit to work system, conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing controls to mitigate risks to safe levels.
Strategy and Management
- Contributing to the development of maintenance strategies and best practices that enhance operational efficiency. This includes participating in the creation of policies and processes, engaging in new projects aimed at continuous improvement, as well as evaluating the effects of these initiatives on maintenance operations and effectively communicating these impacts.
Operational and Maintenance Management
- Preparing designs and specifications and estimates costs for internal or contracted renovations, modifications, expansions or installation of systems, buildings, facilities and machinery.
- Developing and implementing a preventive maintenance programme to boost service audit efficiency, incorporating Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), ensuring the reliability of systems, buildings, facilities and machinery.
- Managing routine maintenance to extend asset lifespan and enhance performance, supported by well-documented procedures, and record-keeping.
- Managing the assignment of maintenance tasks to guarantee timely completion and adherence to schedules, thereby ensuring continuous plant operations.
- Providing proactive support and technical assistance to ensure that maintenance is conducted efficiently and effectively, upholding the overall operational integrity.
- Ensuring the availability of machinery, particularly those with frequent issues, and work towards optimising equipment performance to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Integrating new assets into, and managing, the Pirana CMMS (Current Maintenance Management System).
- Supporting the site with its energy reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Responsible for implementing the necessary technical skills, resources, and systems for project delivery, which may include hiring external resources.
- Providing engineering and cost advice about plant facilities related to the short- and long-term needs of H+H.
- Overseeing the department's safety protocols, ensuring regular reviews and compliance with current company policies regarding Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Managing the weekly maintenance budget to ensure adherence to the schedule and evaluating performance, including aiding in the development of the annual maintenance budget and forecasting.
- Adhere to the company's policies, procedures and protocols, to ensure the highest quality standards for all our products and services.
- Drive results by setting ambitious goals, measuring progress, and continuously improving.
People Management
- Leading a maintenance team to excel and grow through task delegation, motivation, and development opportunities that align with company objectives. It requires independently driving staff to meet targets, assessing their performance, and providing feedback.
- Resolving conflicts, upholding operational standards, reporting on objectives, ensuring adequate staffing, and managing performance records are crucial aspects of the role.
- Ongoing training and development, including training staff in root cause analysis.
- Daily organisation of shift and day maintenance staff and contractors, as well as coordination during weekends and scheduled shutdowns to maintain seamless operations.
Communication
- Working and communicating effectively across departments to support and facilitate the successful operation of the business.
- Building and sustaining robust relationships to facilitate positive engagements with customers, suppliers, and contractors to promote the interests of H+H UK and secure positive outcomes for the business.
- Act as an active and key representative of the company within the site management team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Time served maintenance craft member suitable recognised qualification in engineering (e.g. HNC, level 3 NVQ 3 in electrical, mechanical or engineering maintenance etc.)Middle management certification, e.g. Level 4/5 ILM, CMI Management &
- Leadership
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and management roles, ideally from a similar 24/7 continuous process plant environment.
- Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and experience in relevant software (e.g. CMMS, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
- Demonstrable experience in production and manufacturing processes and skilled in maintaining industrial plant machinery and equipment.
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English
- It is beneficial to have a thorough understanding of Lean principles but not required.
- A qualification in Lean/Six Sigma or a related field is highly desirable.
- Recognised Health and Safety qualification, e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH or NVQ is desirable.
