The Role:

The main purpose of this role involves establishing and enforcing standardised work protocols, delivering comprehensive operator training to bridge skill gaps, and instilling industry best practices in order to achieve high levels of “Right First Time” product and meet our customer services level requirements. 

Collaborative efforts with colleagues’ peers are essential to pinpoint and dissect production bottlenecks, conduct Root Cause Analysis in order to solve product failures, develop continuous improvement opportunities, and enact solutions to achieve production goals. You will also craft and align a quality analysis program with plant-wide improvement strategies, ensuring seamless operations to meet production objectives. 

A focus on optimising plant efficiency, particularly in mixing, autoclaving, and packaging, is expected, alongside managing process efficiency projects. The role calls for coordinating high-priority tasks, championing continuous improvement, and advocating for the standardisation of work protocols and training. 

Regular reviews of Operational Control Procedures (OCPs) to guarantee effectiveness, along with developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments for compliance and safety, are also key responsibilities. You will be a catalyst for change, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the plant operations.
 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Utilise data analytics to enhance daily plant performance and minimise downtime.
  • Oversee the Process (Lab) department, implementing quality improvement initiatives through data analysis.
  • Implement and establish standardised work protocols and processes and provide comprehensive training for operators on these protocols (as well as other training to address skill deficiencies), along with industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and analysed production and performance bottlenecks, assist in Root Cause
  • Analysis (RCA), and implement corrective measures and improvements to meet production targets.
  • Develop a quality analysis programme, ensuring alignment with other plant teams for improvement strategies.
  • Optimise plant operations to achieve production targets and coordinating with planning teams to streamline schedules and transitions and assist colleagues with troubleshooting and resolving critical plant issues and breakdowns for rapid recovery.
  • Optimise plant efficiency, focusing on mix times, autoclave, and packing capacities.  Identify and implement improvements in process efficiency, aiding in the management of projects.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to prioritise and execute high-priority tasks supported by data analysis.
  • Promote continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principles by identifying and suggesting standardisation and enhancements in work protocols, processes, training, and practices.
  • Ensure the adherence and efficacy of OCPs are regularly assessed.
  • Manage the evaluation and development of SOPs and Risk Assessments to ensure organisational processes align with regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  • Functional leadership of shift process technicians
  • Maintain effective communication within all company departments and with external stakeholders to foster positive relationships and engage with external bodies as needed.
  • Staying abreast of best practices and processes in modern manufacturing principles, and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Adhere to the company's policies, procedures and protocols, to ensure the highest quality standards for all our products and services.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • Educated to degree level in Engineering, Business Management, Industrial Management or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a mid-management roles, ideally from a similar 24/7 continuous process plant environment.
  • Management certification, e.g. level 4/5 ILM, CMI Team or Management/Leadership or willingness to work towards.
  • Possession of a recognised Lean/Six Sigma qualifications (minimum Green Belt), or willingness to work towards.
  • Qualified in a recognised Project Management qualification (e.g. PMP, Prince2, Agile or similar).
  • Recognised Health and Safety qualification, e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH or NVQ is desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (E.g. Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge and experience of business energy management and or ERP system (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365.
